Overview

Getting fit after marriage is a special challenge, especially for young mothers. A study conducted on 343 brides from Bridal Expos in South Australia found that women on average gained 2 kg of weight after six months of marriage.

Newlywed Icouples often eat out and attend parties, which can lead to weight gain. Working mothers also have less time for physical activity, which can contribute to weight gain.

According to Google Trends, “How to lose weight for women” keywords has been a popular search term in the past 12 months.

🎯 Objective

  • Help trainees achieve their ideal body even if they’re busy.
  • Create a feature where trainees can see future program schedules, training statistics, and food plans.

👥 To whom is this app for?

  • Young mothers between 20 and 24 years old (with limited technological experience) who desire to achieve their pre-marital physique.

🦸‍♂️ Responsibility

In this challenge, I’ve been a one-person powerhouse, handling everything from research to final presentation.

🔍 Research Process

Competitive Analysis

I decided to conduct a competitive analysis of similar applications to understand the strategies they use to solve user problems and to learn about what steps I can take to improve this application.

Our Goals

To understand how easy the features that users will use in the application are, especially for those who are not tech savvy.

Identify Key Competitors

Summary

Based on the insights I found during the competitive analysis, there are several points that can be applied to this application:

  • Organize the information on the homepage based on the most important hierarchy.
  • Help users easily discover the list of the trainers and their training programs.
  • Make it easy for users to prepare their meal plan for a week.

Based on the points I’ve identified, I’m brainstorming solutions that I can implement later.

Organize the information on the homepage based on the most important hierarchy

  • Move training statistics, daily calorie intake, and related information to the home menu and place it at the top.
  • Use charts, graphs, and progress bars to make information easily digestible at a glance.
  • Allow users to customize their dashboard layout.

Help users easily discover the list of the trainers and their training programs

  • Create a discover menu that contains the names of trainers and the programs they offer.
  • Allow users to follow trainers and get notified about new programs.
  • Create curated collections of trainers and programs based on popular themes, goals, or challenges.

Make it easy for users to prepare their meal plan for a week

  • Create a list of the food that users have consumed today and place it in the home menu for easy access.
  • Provide meal plan recommendations by the trainers.
  • Create a meal plan template so that users do not need to enter it again from the beginning.

Prioritizing Solutions

To determine which solutions to prioritize, I created a diagram based on the impact of the feature for the application and the effort required.

After I put all the solutions into a graphic, I selected about five main ideas that I would prioritize for this application, including:

  • Change the hierarchy in the home menu.
  • Use charts, graphs, and progress bars to make information easily digestible at a glance.
  • Create a list of the food that users have consumed today and place it in the home menu for easy access.
  • Create a discover menu that contains the names of trainers and the programs they offer.
  • Create a meal plan template so that users do not need to enter it again from the beginning.

🎨 Design Process

Sketching

I began to draw sketches using paper so that I could know my starting point in designing later and so that I could think quickly and creatively.

Moodboarding

After that, I tried to make a moodboard so that I could explore possible layouts that I could provide for this app, but still pay attention to its functionality.

Design System

To ensure that every element of my design is consistent, I tried to create a mini design system. I used the Geist font because I felt that this font has a relaxed and slightly feminine impression from its shape.

In addition, I also used a light pink color as the primary color because pink can be associated with energy, enthusiasm, and playfulness, all qualities that can be motivating when it comes to exercise.

Hifi Design

📝 Conclusion

To evaluate the application’s ability to solve user problems, we can conduct usability testing with a sample of at least 10 users and measure the success rate of tasks they perform.
